RISE Research Institutes of Sweden Processum AB and AstraZeneca in the PHARMECO Project
We’re proud to celebrate the impactful role of the RISE Processum (PRO) and AstraZeneca (AZ) in the PHARMECO initiative—an ambitious Horizon Europe project advancing Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) practices in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Together as a key academic and industry partners, PRO and AZ bring deep scientific expertise and innovation to the table, particularly in:
🧬 Scale-up of biotechnology processes
🏭 Support for manufacturing scale-up
Their contributions are central to Work Package 6, which focuses on the validation of upscaled/pilot SSbD-driven pharmaceutical manufacturing processes regarding sustainability, operational compatibility, and regulatory compliance
In addition, AZ will strongly contribute to Work Package 3, which is focuses on the development of sustainable, scalable methods for synthesizing APIs and intermediates, focusing on green chemistry to reduce waste, hazardous substances, and environmental impact.
